Marceline voters asked to pass Transportation Sales Tax
Voters within the Marceline City limits are being asked to consider passing a continuation of an already existing Transportation Sales Tax when they head to the polls on April 4. Should it be passed it would be a continuation of the current 1/2% Transportation Sales Tax now in place.
Annual change from chloramines to chlorine in Brookfield, Marceline
On Monday, April 3, 2023, the City of Marceline in conjunction with the City of Brookfield and Public Water Supply District Number 3 will be making its annual change from chloramines to chlorine. Every year, the Cities of Marceline, Brookfield and Public Water Supply District Number 3 (PWSD # 3) implement an annual flushing program, according to Marceline City Manager Richard Hoon.
Governor announces over $94 million awarded through Community Revitalization Grant Program
Including $250,000 to North Central Missouri Mental Health Center in Linn County Governor Mike Parson announced that the Missouri Department of Economic Development (DED) has awarded more than $94 million through the Community Revitalization Grant Program for 70 projects across the state. The program, funded through the American Rescue Plan Act (ARPA) and part of Governor Parson's Fiscal Year 2023 budget plan, is focused on investing in communities of all sizes to support local priorities, encourage economic recovery, and build resilience for the future.

Better Days Prom was the “Best Day”
Creative Pathways hosted the second annual Better Days Prom Saturday, March 25, 2023, at the Locust Creek Event Center in Brookfield. This year’s prom theme was “Under the Sea” and the event center was festooned with balloons and an ocean-themed walkway tunnel for guests to walk through as they were announced during the Grand March. Guests arrived in semi-formal and formal attire. The Grand March, open to the public, included friends and family of the guests and staff members.

Attendance was down to approximately 30 for the Senior Meal at the Baptist Church on March 20. Since that was the first day of Spring, apparently many were enjoying the more spring-like weather elsewhere.

The Marceline Nutrition Center is located at 229 W. Hauser. Please call ahead at 660-3763103 to reserve a carry- out meal, which will be ready at 11 a.m. Dinein meals begin at 11:30 a.m. Suggested contribution is $3 per meal. 8 oz. low-fat milk is offered at every meal.

Brookfield Army Veteran recognized as Atomic Bomb Volunteer
Clarence Dodd, of Brookfield was recently recognized by the Department of Defense as an Atomic Veteran with a certificate and coin commemorating his service. Dodd said that he remembers it well.
Wessing runs for re-election on Brookfield City Council
Voters living within the Brookfield City limits will be asked to vote for two of three candidates for Brookfield City Council when they head to the polls on April 4. Incumbent Sarah Wessing hopes voters will allow her to continue serving on the council as she has done since 2017.

The word “crisis” can sometimes be overused, but when it comes to the gap between youth in foster care and the number of available foster homes, the reality is shocking. Reports from Missouri Children’s Division show that there are close to 13,500 youth in state custody, but only about 5,000 licensed foster homes in the state. In Kansas, the Department of Children and Families reports more than 6,200 youth in state custody, but only about 2,400 available foster homes.
