She was born at home in Taylor, TX on June 4, 1932 and grew up in the Waco area of TX. She was proud of her first “real” job at Amicable Life Insurance Co. in Houston and would tell stories of being a determined red head and making a career for herself. After moving to El Paso, Texas in her 20’s, she worked at Standard Oil Refinery as a secretary, where she met her husband, Frank, and they were married for 54 years before his passing in September of 2015. After leaving Std. Oil, she worked as a secretary for Robert E. McKee Construction Company for many years before the family’s move to Benicia, CA in 1976. Once in CA, Bettie took on secretary temp jobs thru Kelly’s Temp Service and continued to work until she retired in 1987 to become a full-time grandmother and assist in lovingly caring for all her grandchildren through the years. In the words of her granddaughter in law “She was a grandma to all”.
