Fine-Tuning Time

Marceline and Brookfield high schools’ 2025 football and softball teams did “road tests” last weekend, except the BHS softball Lady Bulldogs’ was at home as they had practice games against both Trenton and Putnam County on the BHS diamond last Saturday morning. Marceline’s softball squad went to Palmyra that day for similar activity. The evening before, MHS’ football Tigers traveled to South Shelby High School near Shelbina for controlled scrimmages against the host Cardinals, Westran and Louisiana. At the same time, at Unionville, Brookfield’s team got a look at itself against Kirksville, South Harrison and host Putnam County. (Photos by Olivia McCauslin, Cindi Rodgers and Paul Sturm)

Three Brookfield Players All-District in Baseball

Senior shortstop Trayce Switzer and pitchers-infielders Riley Hinckle and Ross Enrich of the 2025 Brookfield High School baseball team were voted to the Class 3 District 16 all-district team selected by coaches of the teams which competed in the District 16 tournament last month. They were honored for their play throughout the season, not only during the 5-teams tournament, in which the Bulldogs bulldozed Lexington in the first round and came within a couple of outs of upsetting top-seeded Lawson in the semifinals. Switzer was a first-team selection, while 2025 graduate Ehrich and 2024-25 sophomore Hinckle were on the second team. (PAUL STURM/LCL FILE PHOTOS)
