Brookfield Mat Boys Advance Seven To State
HIGGINSVILLE — As anticipated, the Brookfield High School wrestling Bulldogs had an outstanding showing in last weekend’s state-tournament-qualifying Class 1 District 3 Tournament at Higginsville, capturing three individual titles and placing second in the 15-squads team standings. The titles won by Jaden Abongo at 170 pounds, Gambal Staddie at 126, and Peyton Parn at 113 led the way, but were well supplemented by Trent Polley’s second place at 195, Colton Parn’s third at 145, and the fourths garnered by Kendrell Carter at 160 and Devan Parn at 138.
Marceline, Brookfield Basketball Teams Fall In League Road Games Tuesday
The closing stretch of the 2021-22 high school basketball season for Marceline’s and Brookfield’s varsity squads continued to be a challenging one this past Tuesday. All four teams sustained double-digits losses in conference contests – BHS at South Shelby and MHS at Salisbury – that extended their lean harvest from the final month of the regular season.
State-Bound Lady Bulldogs Wrestling Trio
Brookfield High School will have participants in Missouri’s girls wrestling state tournament this coming week, thanks to the performance’s of this trio at Wentzville last weekend. Oscarina Jackson, left, a 2021 state tournament qualifier, not only won her way back to state, but will go as a 174-pounds division district champion. Riley Howell, right, also earned a district championship, prevailing at 159 pounds. The third Lady Bulldog headed to the Feb. 17-19 state tourney at the University of Missouri-Columbia’s Mizzou Arena is Mya Sackrey, who captured third place at 130 pounds by winning her last four bouts after a championship-quarterfinals loss. Jackson heads to state with a 28-1 record, Howell a 34-4 mark, and Sackrey at 27-5.
