The closing stretch of the 2021-22 high school basketball season for Marceline’s and Brookfield’s varsity squads continued to be a challenging one this past Tuesday. All four teams sustained double-digits losses in conference contests – BHS at South Shelby and MHS at Salisbury – that extended their lean harvest from the final month of the regular season.
WENTZVILLE, Mo. — Three Brookfield High School Lady Bulldogs and one Marceline Lady Tiger will compete in this year’s Missouri high school wrestling girls’ state tournament, beginning Thursday, Feb. 17, at Columbia.
BROOKFIELD — The Brookfield High School varsity basketball squads assured themselves of going “zero for” in Clarence Cannon Conference play during 2021-22 last Friday by claiming home-floor triumphs from Clark County. Despite scoring only two first-quarter points, the Lady Bulldogs (6-15, 1-3 CCC) roared back to lead 20-17 at halftime on the way to a 40-25 triumph.
With the start of postseason play in high school basketball looming in a couple of weeks, just as they had to last year, the Meadville High School Lady Eagles are dealing with an injury which has one of their key members sidelined, perhaps for the rest of the regular season.

Five Brookfield High School Bulldogs and four Marceline High Tigers hope to advance to the Class 1 state wrestling tournament again this weekend at Higginsville. The state-qualifying District 3 tournament will involve competitors from 15 schools and be hosted by Lafayette County High.
MARCELINE — The Marceline High School basketball varsity teams’ delayed quests for the crowns of the 2022 Milan Invitational Tournament, already understood as a bit of a long-shot after losing unintended previews exactly a week earlier, came to disappointing ends last Monday after promising beginnings.
Many of Missouri’s furbearer trapping seasons closed early this past week (Jan. 31), but there’s still some season left on otters, muskrats, beaver and nutria.
MARCELINE — Most team members of each gender shared their teams’ successful wrapups to the 2021-22 Marceline High School wrestling regular seasons this past Tuesday. Competing at home against Chillicothe and Centralia, the Tigers rang up team triumphs – 40-30 over Centralia and then 66-12 over Chillicothe, while the Lady Tigers handled Chillicothe 54-12.
