JEFFERSON CITY — Half of Brookfield High School’s modest 8-entries contingent to last Friday’s and Saturday’s Class 2 Missouri State High School Activities Association Championships in track and field came back with tangible rewards for their efforts. Led by sophomores Samantha “Sam” Sharp and Kylin King, BHS produced four medal-earning top-8 finishes in the state meet at Jefferson City High School’s “Pete” Adkins Stadium.
The North Missouri Sportsman’s Alliance and Missouri Department of Conservation have announced they again will host a Kids Fishing Derby on Saturday, June 4, at The Baptist Home pond at the north edge of Chillicothe (across Highway 65 from the Farm Credit Services building). Fishing will begin at 9 a.m.

JEFFERSON CITY — A year after its limited, but high-quality, girls’ contingent put together a ninth-place team showing that featured a thirdstraight state high jumping crown for then-senior Ramzee Bruner, Marceline High School’s track-and-field program came up empty, pointswise, in the 2023 Class 2 Missouri State High School Activities Association Championships last weekend.

TRENTON — Having played for a district championship a year ago in just the second year of their program’s existence, Brookfield High School’s baseball Bulldogs last week hoped to parlay their first-ever winning season into a first-ever district title and appearance in the state tournament, only to bobble the opportunity. Even with once-beaten Tri-County/Gallatin’s Mustangs 3-3 after 4-1/2 innings of their Class 3 District 16 semifinal game a week ago today, the Bulldogs’ bid for that inaugural championship faded fast in the face of multiple defensive miscues.

MOBERLY — While the site was changed, due to the weather and field conditions at the originally- planned location, the outcome of the Marceline High School baseball Tigers’ Class 2 District 7 tournament semifinal contest with fellow Lewis and Clark Conference member Salisbury May 15 was unaltered from expectations. The top-seeded Panthers (21-1), now owner of 2022-23 boys’ state championships in basketball and golf after taking the links crown last week, could make a run at a third after following its 10-1 semifinals victory over Marceline with a 9-3 triumph over New Franklin in the District 7 title game last Wednesday.
