Meadville Girls Topple No. 1-Ranked Class 2 Foe, Take TCC Title Outright

Closing in on a statistical state record with, effectively, one hurdle to clear to “run the table” during their 2022-23 regular season, the Meadville High School basketball Lady Eagles hosted Class 2 state-ranked Schuyler County Monday at the beginning of the closing week of the regular campaign, while also looking ahead to hosting the Class 1 District 12 tournament next week as the postseason commences. Formidable Brookfield, Marceline Boys’ Mat Squads at District Saturday

Higginsville’s Lafayette County High School will be the scene of the 15-schools Class 1 District 3 boys’ high school wrestling tournament this Friday and Saturday with both the Brookfield Bulldogs and Marceline Tigers squads expected to fare very well. Individually, the top four finishers in each of the 14 weight divisions will advance to next Wednesday’s and Thursday’s state tournament at the University of Missouri’s Mizzou Arena in Columbia.

Wrestling Bulldogs Close Regular Season with Dominant Win

CHILLICOTHE — The Brookfield High School wrestling Bulldogs’ 2022-23 regular season wrapped up in synch with the bulk of the campaign last Thursday, with a strong showing. The rugged light- and middleweight members of the BHS boys’ lineup won all except one bout – six of the 11 by fall – as the Bulldogs rolled over host Chillicothe 60-24 in their regular-season finale.

Meadville Girls Claim Own Crown Unchallenged

Roll through own tourney with “running clocks,” add pair of tougher games MEADVILLE — Nailbiters were largely out of fashion during last week’s 44th-annual Meadville Invitational tournament with only four of the 22 total games ending with single-digits differences. Not unexpectedly, the undefeated host Lady Eagles marauded their three opponents, playing the final quarter of each game with leads of at least 30 points – meaning the game clock rarely stopped in those frames.

Brookfield Wrestlers Sweep Regular-Season Finale

BROOKFIELD — Challenged only once in five overall bouts, Brookfield High School’s wrestling teams wrapped up their 2022-23 regular season Jan. 24 by sweeping visiting Kirksville, Palmyra and Mexico in dual matches for both genders. The Bulldogs were tested by Kirksville, but prevailed by having a full lineup, while the Tigers had openings at 150 and 215 pounds that gave BHS its 12-points winning margin of 44-32.
