Take 11 personal titles as boys earn crown, girls second MARSHALL — With an overpowering show of force in having half of the individual champions, Brookfield High School’s wrestling Bulldogs handily earned the team championship of last Saturday’s 13-schools Marshall Tournament. The only county Class 1 high school basketball teams with action between Christmas and New Year’s – Meadville’s girls and boys – split their action last Thursday in the “12 Courts of Christmas” shootout at Hy-Vee Arena (old Kemper Arena) in Kansas City. The Lady Eagles (10-0) overwhelmed Winston’s Lady redbirds 91-21, putting five scorers in double digits and having double-doubles in points and steals from their Carvajal sisters.

Both high school wrestling programs in the county jumped right back into competition last night as the new calendar year stretched its legs. Marceline hosted both girls’ and boys’ round-robin dual matches against Brookfield, Hamilton: Penney, and Mid-Buchanan Tuesday – the first of three competitions for the BHS squads this week and one of two for Marceline’s.
