Marceline Mat Girls Take Kinen Classic Crown at Chillicothe

Boys fourth in tourney after pair of dual wins last Thursday In the aftermath of their losses to county rival Brookfield Jan. 10 (see story on page B1), Marceline High School’s wrestling teams experienced some continued highs and lows the rest of last week, the zenith of the highs coming last Saturday at Chillicothe when the Lady Tigers handily outdistanced a fairly small field of opponents to earn the team championship of the Dave Kinen Classic tournament.

BHS Girls Barely Escaped First-Round Upset

Bulldogs picked up third win of year in semis MILAN — The top-seeded Brookfield High School Lady Bulldogs’ trip to the title tilt of last week’s Milan Invitational basketball tournament nearly took a wrong turn before it really got underway. Entering the tourney already with the program’s first twin-digits wins total since the middle of last decade already a fait accompli, the Lady ’Dogs never could shake Brashear off their tail, but managed to have their pug nose barely in front at the final horn, winning 46-45 in the tourney’s opening round a week ago yesterday.

Marceline Stretched Wins Streak to Four During Milan Tourney

Boys netted first win with OT triumph last Friday MILAN — Marceline High School’s basketball Lady Tigers extended the winning streak they began the week before in the Salisbury Invitational to four by advancing to the championship game of last week’s Milan Invitational tournament, while the boys finally discovered the right combination to victory. The Lady Tigers, seeded third, took down second-seeded host Milan 5044 in last Wednesday’s semifinals after handling Novinger 58-43 in the opening round Jan.

Meadville Girls ‘All In,’ Take Salisbury Title

SALISBURY — It realistically can’t be viewed any other way. This season’s Meadville High School basketball Lady Eagles are “the real deal.” Taking down state-ranked teams from higher classifications in both the semifinals and championship game of the Salisbury Invitational tournament last Thursday and Saturday, the MHS girls (13-0) clearly established their ceiling – serious state-championship contention.

Marceline Hoops Girls Emerge from Tourney on Wins Streak

Tigers continue quest for first 2022-23 victory Marceline High School’s varsity basketball teams segued from one tournament right into another this week, following last week’s mixed-results participation in the Salisbury Invitational with competition this week in the 63rd Milan Invitational. Both the third-seeded Lady Tigers (7-4) and eighth-seeded Tigers (0-10) saw first-round action at Milan Monday – the girls facing Novinger and the boys top seed Putnam County.

BHS Wrestlers Dominate Marshall Tournament

Take 11 personal titles as boys earn crown, girls second MARSHALL — With an overpowering show of force in having half of the individual champions, Brookfield High School’s wrestling Bulldogs handily earned the team championship of last Saturday’s 13-schools Marshall Tournament. The strong Lady Bulldogs squad, which had brought home ninth place from a massive (82-schools) tournament at Columbia: Battle the last weekend of 2022, nearly made it a clean BHS sweep of the Marshall team crowns.
