Meadville Girls Swamp Final Foe, Take Northwestern Tourney Crown

MENDON — A county high school basketball squad late last week continued its expected strong start to the 2022-23 season after a 20-wins campaign a year ago. Meadville’s Lady Eagles, whose new coach Steve Carvajal happened to bring with him two high school age daughters who are standout players, again exhibited their new coach’s high-octane style and balanced weaponry last Saturday, swamping second- seeded Higbee 89-25 in the championship game of the Northwestern Invitational tournament.

MARCELINE — Two Marceline High School Tigers and two Lady Tigers proved to be primed and ready for their first competitive home appearance of the 2022-23 wrestling seasons last Saturday. When the Tiger Mat Classic, which drew 11 schools, concluded, Tigers Ryder Gooch and Conner Quinn and Lady Tigers Payton Weese and Maddie Dauber had gone unbeaten on the day and earned tourney titles.

Marceline Girls’ Second-Stanza Surge Secures Opening Win Tuesday

GLASGOW — After a back-and-forth first quarter against the host team, Marceline High School’s basketball Lady Tigers kicked it into gear in the second stanza Tuesday night, ripping off a 20-4 stretch to take command and eventually serve as the final difference in a 5741 victory in MHS’ opening- round game in the 92nd-annual Glasgow Invitational tournament.
