Royals’ Cuas Gets 2022 Conigliaro Award

BOSTON —The Boston Red Sox announced early this past week that Kansas City Royals pitcher Jose Cuas has been selected to receive the 2022 Tony Conigliaro Award. The Red Sox have recognized a Tony Conigliaro Award winner for every year since 1990 in memory of their former outfielder, whose highly-promising career was tragically shortened by a beanball in 1967 and whose life ended in 1990 at the age of 45, following a massive heart attack at only 37.

Meadville Boys Top LC in Mendon Tourney, Lady Mustangs Slip By Brunswick

MENDON — As action in the 67th-annual Northwestern Invitational high school basketball tournament moved into the semifinals at mid-week, five of the eight teams from Linn County or overlapping schools were on the championship side of the brackets, meaning at least one will be in title- game action Saturday evening. Still with chances at the crown for their respective genders were the top-seeded Meadville girls and host Northwestern boys, along with Meadville’s boys and Linn County’s and Bucklin/ Macon County R-4’s girls.

Chiefs Adding Ex-Broncos RB Gordon, AP Reports

KANSAS CITY — The Kansas City Chiefs were planning to sign two-time Pro Bowl running back Melvin Gordon to their practice squad, a person familiar with the decision told The Associated Press at midweek, a move which would add some much-needed depth with a player recently released from the AFC West rival Denver Broncos. The person spoke on condition of anonymity Monday because the signing was not yet official.
