The 2024-25 high school basketball season extended into at least mid-week for both Marceline and Brookfield, a bit unexpectedly.
The female portion of Linn County’s representation at this coming week’s high school wrestling state championships cemented last Friday and Saturday when five Brookfield Lady Bulldogs – three of them as individual champions – powered the blue and white to a second-straight Class 1 District 2 team title, while Marceline came away empty-handed, tonight and tomorrow at Versailles, the BHS and MHS boys’ state hopefuls will battle for top-4 finishes in the 15-schools Class 1 District 3 tournament which would send them on to state.
Their planned final-week tuneups hamstrung by the weather early this week, the Brookfield and Marceline high school basketball teams will roll the dice and hope for the best, beginning at mid-week next week, as 2024-25 postseason play begins.

The pairings for the annual Meadville Invitational high school basketball tournament finalized last night with the playing of the championship semifinals, the event’s third-place and consolation games will occur this evening, starting at 4:30 p.m. with the girls’ consolation contest, and the championship games will be tomorrow night – the girls game at 5 p.m. and the boys’ at about 6:20-6:30.
