Brookfield, Marceline District Grid Seedings Down to Finale

As the 2022 high school football season comes to a conclusion this weekend, the district playoffs seedings for the Brookfield Bulldogs and Marceline Tigers still were in flux going to their finales Friday night. What happened in their winnable games and in the meeting between Milan and Maysville/Winston was to tell the tale whether a second meeting of the season between the county rivals would come about in next week’s opening round of the postseason or could be a possibility – albeit much more remote – down the line. Brookfield began its regular-season finale against Ewing: Highland with a rating of 32.66 for the season, fourth-best in Class 1 District 7. Marceline was sixth in the district at 28.48 with Maysville/ Winston separating the two at 30.89. Those ratings, along with third-place Milan’s 33.52 were closely- enough bunched that a BHS-MHS rematch – either as the Nos. 3 and 6 or Nos. 4 and 5 seeds were distinct possibilities. If Marceline handled Paris Friday and Brookfield did the same – which both were expected to do, their ratings would improve a bit. If Milan defeated Maysville/Winston in their meeting at Maysville, Marceline had a strong chance to slip past Maysville/Winston into fifth, while Brookfield would stay fourth. If Maysville/Winston won, it would not pass Brookfield, but the Bulldogs almost certainly would surpass Milan and get the No. 3 seeding, while Marceline stayed stuck in sixth. However, if Brookfield did not take care of its business against Highland or Marceline faltered against Paris – neither very likely, the second go-around might not come to pass, at least not this week. If not then, both probabl

Elsberry Stands Between Diamond Lady Tigers and Springfield

MARCELINE — While it’s far from accurate geographically, competitively, Elsberry stands between Marceline High School’s softball Lady Tigers and a return engagement in Springfield for the Class 2 state semifinals and finals. After surviving a scare from a determined Trenton team in last week’s Class 2 District 6 Tournament semifinals, the Lady Tigers waltzed past second-seeded South Harrison 8-0 in the championship game last Saturday, putting MHS in the state tournament for a third time in four year and preserving its opportunity to capture consecutive state crowns.

Brookfield, Marceline Could Do It Again in Playoffs

A possibility revealed in late August when the Missouri State High School Activities Association disclosed how high school 11-man football classification and district assignments had shaken out took more potential shape last Friday when the Brookfield Bulldogs and Marceline Tigers each picked up 2022 week eight road victories. Brookfield virtually assured itself of hosting a first-round game in the Class 1 District 7 playoffs when it doubled up host Clark County, 26-13, in a Clarence Cannon Conference contest at Kahoka.

Softball Lady Tigers into Postseason at Full ‘Go’

Marceline High School’s defending Class 2 state-champion softball Lady Tigers weren’t fully perfect in their final action of the 2022 regular season last Saturday, but they were darn close. Polishing their performance for a bid for another state crown over the next couple of weeks, the MHS squad was – in fact – perfect when it opened its 3-games slate in the tournament hosted by Benton High of St.
