Brookfield Gridders Fall Despite Pair of Passing Records

SHELBINA – 2022 Brookfield High School football junior quarterback Colton Parn threw for Bulldogs-record 399 yards and senior wide receiver Gambal Staddie had a BHS-best-ever 220 receiving yards against the South Shelby Cardinals last Friday night, but it wasn’t enough to give Brookfield back-toback victories. Coming off its “Bell Game” triumph at Marceline the week before, BHS fell behind by three touchdowns in the first period and lost 36-20 on the road.

Marceline Softball Girls Remained Unbeaten Entering Week

Tough days on diamond for Meadville girls late last week Marceline High School’s defending Class 2 state-champion softball squad remained undefeated in 2022 last week, but Meadville’s softball girls sustained three defeats during the week. Off the diamond around the county, the Brookfield volleyball Lady Bulldogs won a game, but not the match at home against Hamilton: Penney last Thursday, while the BHS cross country runners uniformly improved their times in their second meet of the fall.

BHS’ Recovering Sharp Starts Running Season With Second

Her injury-throttled freshman year at Brookfield High School hopefully now a fading memory, sophomore Samantha Sharp successfully completed her return to cross country running competition this past Tuesday when she placed second as BHS only entrant in the varsity girls’ division of the 19th-annual Chillicothe Invitational meet. A 2021 Class 2 state meet qualifier, even though her then-relatively- new leg injury wound up keeping her from participating, Sharp completed the 5-kilometers (approximately 3.1 miles) 2-loops course around and through Simpson Park in north Chillicothe in 21:43.2.
