ST. LOUIS — As the time neared for best-and-last offers for clubs like the St. Louis Cardinals trying to land stars like Juan Soto, Willson Contreras and J.D. Martinez 0r top available starting pitchers ahead of Tuesday's 5 p.m. CDT trade deadline, the Cardinals began a home stand which included facing the rival Chicago Cubs and then the AL East-leading New York Yankees and revived former long-time teammate Matt Carpenter already having gotten a lift – at least temporarily – from one new, but familiar, arrival.

Luke-ing Forward To New Season

An average of a couple dozen-plus players participated during the final summer activities of the Brookfield High School football program the week of July 18-22 before the beginning of preseason practices Monday, Aug. 8.
