NORMA GENE AMER

Norma Gene Amer, age 93, of Kansas City, MO; formerly of Brookfield, MO; passed away peacefully Wednesday, March 31, 2023 at New Mark Care Center in Kansas City, MO. Norma Gene daughter of James Pleasant and Bertie Ellen (Bowlen) Cooper, was born on June 24, 1929 in Carrollton, MO. On April 28, 1946, Norma married Glynn F. Amer in Carrollton, MO. He preceded her in death on November 20, 1990. Norma was a past member of the Eastern Star, and Linn County Republican Women’s Committee. Norma was a very religious person and was proud to serve God. Over the years she attended several churches in the area. She enjoyed sharing her faith through devotions, reading scripture, and singing. She loved to keep busy cooking, gardening, painting, and antiquing. Norma even taught painting lessons and had worked for Bowden Studio in Brookfield doing oil painting. Norma had a green thumb for gardening. If it would grow, she would raise it. Everything from tomatoes to strawberries. Norma loved spending time with her family, and she will be dearly missed by them. Norma is survived by her one son, Michael Amer (Anne) from Masterton, New Zealand; four grandchildren, Michele Amer Oliver, Ward Amer (Jennifer), Ashley Howard, Marc Amer (Tammy), Lori Ronchetto-Carnes (Sam); five great grandchildren, Austin Ronchetto, Gretchen Ronchetto, Emily Amer, Paris Amer, and Tayln Howard Stinson; many greatgreat grandchildren, two sisters, Brenda Totty and Lorna Woodside; two brothers, James (Jay) Cooper, and Carl Cooper; a daughter-in-law, Judy Trueblood; and several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Glynn Amer; two sons, Glynn Allan Amer and Jack Franklin Amer; one daughter, Penelope (Penny) Howard; one great-grandchild; one sister, Kathleen Carter; two brothers, Earl Cooper and Larry Cooper. BARBARA JO BEACH

Barbara Jo Beach, age 87, of Spring Hill, KS; formally from Brookfield, MO; passed away Saturday, March 18, 2023, at Colonial Oaks Senior Living in Spring Hill, KS. Barbara Jo, daughter of Paul John and Laura Mae (Hargadine) Harbaugh, was born on October 23, 1935, in Laclede, MO. Barbara was united into marriage to Dale Leroy Beach on November 17, 1962 at the Laclede Methodist Church in Laclede, MO. Dale and Barbara shared 59 years together before his passing on March 5, 2022. Barbara was a member of the United Methodist Church in Brookfield and the Beta Sigma Phi Sorority since 1963. She was a secretary for the Brookfield R-III School District for many years. They spent their retirement years traveling and always loved the time they spent during the winter months in Corpus Christi, TX. She lived in Brookfield until 2013. Barbara liked to read, go for walks, play computer games, go camping, and loved spending time with her family. Barbara is survived by her daughter, Sherri Bowman and husband Marvin of Kansas City, MO; one daughter-in-law, Christie Beach of Corpus Christi, TX; four grandchildren, Brian Kyle Beach II and Paul Jeffery “PJ” Beach of Corpus Christi; Kelsey Bowman of Overland Park, KS; and Nathan Bowman of Omaha, NE; three great-grandchildren, Bryse, Xander, and Riley Jo Beach of Corpus Christi; and several nieces, nephews, and relatives. She was preceded in death by her parents, Paul and Laura Harbaugh, husband, Dale Beach, one son, Brian Kyle Beach, and three sisters, Leila Jean Harbaugh, Beverly Lou Spidle, and Carolyn Sue Fitzgerald. Funeral services will be held at the Trinity United Methodist Church, Brookfield, MO; at 2:00 pm. Saturday, April 1, 2023, with Reverend Lee Porch officiating. MARILYN RAE ROSE THUDIUM

Marilyn Rae Rose Thudium, 96, passed peacefully on March 11, 2023, in Liberty, Missouri. She was born January 26, 1927, in Brookfield, Mo to parents, Ray and Genevieve Sternke. Growing up she enjoyed summers at the family cottage at Brookfield Country Club. Marilyn married her high school sweetheart, Richard “Dick” Rose after attending Missouri Valley College where she was a cheerleader and a member of Alpha Xi Delta sorority. Dick and Marilyn settled into their Brookfield home, raising two children, David and Jennifer. Marilyn also became a sales realtor for Cleveland Real Estate. Marilyn was active in her church, First Presbyterian Church of Brookfield, directing the children’s choir, singing in the adult choir and acting as the adult choir director. She was the moderator and treasurer of the Mo. Union Presbytery. She twice served as a delegate to the Presbyterian National General Assembly. Marilyn was also active in PEO Chapters AG and IZ as well as other women’s groups. Marilyn was a real go- getter, believing women should have a career. She was a Field Director for Becky Thatcher Area Girl Scout Council for many decades receiving the prestigious Thanks Badges 1 and 2. After retirement from the Girl Scouts she continued to empower young women by becoming a resident house mother at several University of Missouri sororities where she received the Panhellenic Housemother of the Year Award. Marilyn had a personality larger than life. She loved to perform. She co-directed and performed in Brookfield County Club openings. On the Fourth of July she entertained with “God Bless America”. During her lifetime, she may be best known as the Mizzou Flag Lady, running back and forth in the stands with her black and gold flag. Her love of the University of Missouri Tigers was well known.
