George Wilber Calvert died on September 27, 2022 surrounded by his family. He was born at home near Linneus, Missouri on September 25, 1927, a son of Vernon W. Calvert and Irene Norvell Calvert. After graduating from Linneus High School in 1945, he served in the 12th Regiment of the First Cavalry at Camp McGill, Nagai, Japan from December 1945 to

May 1947. In 1949 he married Jean Lamme and they farmed near Linneus for five years. In 1959 the family moved to Canton, Missouri Funeral services will be on Saturday, October 8, 2022 at 10:00 a.m. at Immanuel United Methodist Church in Canton, MO. Visitation will be from 5:00pm until 7:00pm on Friday, October 7, 2022 at Davis Funeral Home in Canton. In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorials be directed to Immanuel United Methodist Church for youth programs, Canton Main Street Association at P.O. Box 82, Canton, MO 63435 or to The Community Foundation Serving West Central Illinois and Northeast Missouri, 4531 Maine Street, Suite A, Quincy, IL 62305 for the Canton Public Library.
