JAMES “J.W.” (DUB) SPENCER

James “J.W.” (Dub) Spencer age 88 of Mendon, died Thursday, February 9, 2023 at Pioneer Skilled Nursing Center. Dub was born in Whitham, Missouri on February 3, 1935 to Charles William and Elizabeth Rosalie (Gates) Spencer. He married Viola Mae Perkins on July 11, 1954 at Marshall and she survives him.

Dub was a farmer and a member of the Bucklin Assembly of God Church where he was a deacon. He served on the Salt Creek Township for 40 years, Northwestern R1 School Board where he was President for years, and Chariton County Farm Bureau.

He is survived by his wife Viola Spencer of the home in Mendon, five sons, James Michael and Sheryl Spencer of Mendon, Bruce and Marla Spencer of Grantsville, Utah, Gary and Gay Spencer of Brookfield, Darrin and Kelley Spencer of Overland Park, Kansas, and Scott and Kathy Spencer of Mendon, daughter Lana Harrell of Marceline, twenty grandchildren, sixteen great grandchildren and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, sisters Betty, Norma and Bonnie and brother Ralph.

Funeral services will be held at 12 Noon Wednesday, February 15, 2023 at Delaney Funeral Home in Marceline with visitation starting at 10 AM. Burial will be in the Mendon Cemetery. Memorials may be made to Mendon Cemetery or Bucklin Assembly of God Church and mailed to Delaney Funeral Home 1720 N. Missouri Ave., Marceline, MO 64658.
