Katherine Dunaway, age 76, of St. Catherine, passed away Sunday, August 14, 2022, at the St. Luke’s Hospice House, Kansas City.

Graveside services will be held Friday, August 26, 2022, at 1:00 p.m. at Missouri Veterans Cemetery in Jacksonville with Pastor Rex Leppin officiating.

Katherine was born on June 24, 1946, in Chicago, IL, the daughter of Frederick and Katherine (Lengyel) Weiss. She was united in marriage to William “Bill” Dunaway on October 5, 1984, he preceded her in death on April 9, 2018.

Kathy received her master’s degree in nursing and had worked as an emergency room nurse as well as Director of Nursing at Trinity Lutheran Manor. She also worked for several years as a cashier at A&P and National Tea Company grocery stores.

Kathy had suffered from a tragic stroke and passed away. She had a passion for helping others without asking anything in return. Kathy devoted herself to religion, her children, and friends. We know that God is pleased to have a kindhearted and generous angel back in his arms where she belongs. She will be sorely missed by those she had touched.

She is survived by her six children Steve, Jerry, and Fritz Gawinski all of Illinois, Polly Gawinski of Alabama, Dennis Gawinski of South Carolina, Rebecca Dunaway of St. Catharine, and many grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and several other extended family members.

Katherine was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Bill; and her big brother, Fred “Fritz” Weiss.
