Marceline High School’s 2022 softball Lady Tigers headed to Springfield late this past week, seeking a second-straight Class 2 state championship, but already assured of an outstanding 4-years run of successes that has included three top-4 finishes in state play and a near-miss the other year. Weather and field conditions permitting, head coach Todd Lowther’s 2022 team, featuring a handful of returning starters from the ’21 state champs, met Eugene in the semifinals Friday and then took on either Russellville or Creighton: Sherwood for either first or third place Saturday. If MHS and Sherwood clash for the title, it would be a rematch of last year’s championship game Marceline won 4-1 in thrilling manner with a tiebreaking home run – her second of the game – from then-sophomore Ireland Bloss and a 2-runs insurance homer from since-graduated Gracey Jordan. The Lady Tigers toted a 25-5 record into the semifinals.
