Mary Martha Slaughter Littrell

Mary Martha Slaughter Littrell, age 87 of Brookfield, died Tuesday, May 3, 2022 at Pioneer Skilled Nursing in Marceline. Mary was born on July 27, 1934 at the Putman Memorial Hospital in Marceline to James “Harve” and Mary Addie (Oldham) Slaughter.

She married John A. Littrell on June 23, 1955 and he preceded her in death on December 11, 2020.

Mary was a graduate of Marceline High School in 1952 where she proudly held the office of Sr. Class Secretary and helped organize their class reunions throughout the years. Mary’s first work experience was at the age of 14. Her father Harve was a local homebuilder who taught her to hand copy supply and cost listings. These skills led her to the Bookkeeping department at First National Bank of Kansas City after MHS graduation. Mary returned to Marceline to marry John and start their family. In 1958, New Cambria became their home as they began their lifetime of operating gasoline stations, LP and transportation businesses. In 1973 they moved their family to Brookfield. Mary’s duties ranged from Laborer to VP as they supported their business communities of New Cambria, Bucklin, Marceline, Brookfield and Springfield. In her spare time, Mary enjoyed cooking, baking and the activities of her kids and grandkids. She spent countless hours on the MSSCA horseshow circuit with her kids and enjoyed bookkeeping and secretarial duties with local saddle clubs. She also enjoyed traveling with John to view classic cars, livestock or horses, visiting old friends and family and catching a good story along the way. Mary was a 25-year member of BPW Business and Professional Women and enjoyed time spent with the Rose Buds of Marceline.

She is survived by two sons, Jeff Littrell and Pam of Brookfield, Greg Littrell and Angie of Ollogah, OK, daughter Janet McCauslin and Dewayne of Chillicothe, four grandchildren, Jason Littrell (Lisa Bumback) of Brookfield, Daniel Littrell (Emily) of Brookfield, Derek McCauslin (Avery) of Chillicothe, and Jared McCauslin (Libby) of Lee’s Summit, eight great grandchildren, Emree, and Lexi Littrell, Laney, Regan, Layla McCauslin and Grier, Banks, and Rae McCauslin, a dear cousins Edna Annunzio of Kansas City, MO and Paul Oldham of Springfield, MO, sister-in-law Evasene Littrell of Macon, and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, infant brother and dear Aunt Minnie Clark.

Funeral services will be held at 1 PM Saturday, May 7, 2022 at Delaney Funeral Home in Marceline with visitation starting at Noon. Burial will be in the Siloam Cemetery in rural Mendon. Memorials may be made to Siloam Cemetery, and these may be mailed to Delaney Funeral Home 1720 N. Missouri Ave., Marceline, MO 64658.
