Melissa Hicks went to be with the Lord on Thursday afternoon, January 13, 2022 in her home with her mother by her side. She put up a valiant fight with renal cancer until the very end. She was so loved and will be terribly missed.
Melissa Lee Hicks was born August 18, 1974 in Brookfield, Missouri. She was the second child of Clarence Hicks and Judy (Melton) Hicks joining a brother, Michael Edward. Melissa is survived by her mother and caregiver Judy Hicks, her brother Mike, and several aunts, uncles, and cousins. She was preceded in death by her father, Clarence Edward Hicks, in May 2020, her grandparents, Norma and Norris Melton and Kenneth and Betty Hicks, and an aunt Linda (Melton) Miller.
Melissa loved to read and have books signed by her favorite authors. She enjoyed shopping and browsing the aisles of the local library. She always had at least a few books checked out. She worked on learning to knit and crochet and she enjoyed spending time with her brother Mike. Melissa loved children and had fun choosing just the right gift for the members of her family.
There will be a private family only service for Melissa at a later date. A memorial to the Brookfield Public Library is being set up in memory of Melissa Lee Hicks. Donations may be sent to Citizens’ Bank & Trust in Brookfield in care of Pam Davis or to the Brookfield Public Library.
Melissa’s family thanks everyone for their support during this very difficult time.
