Immaculate Conception Church held their annual ice cream social Aug. 25 in Brookfield.
The ice cream social featured games for kids, a meal of hamburgers and hot dogs and homemade ice cream and cake.
The ice cream social at the Immaculate Conception Church in Brookfield began just after mass Saturday. The annual event helps the church give back to its members and the community.
The Catholic Youth Organization (CYO), the Knights of Columbus Council No. 756 and the Knights of Columbus Ladies Auxiliary each helped to put on the community event. The CYO provided games for the kids, the Knights of Columbus provided the hamburgers and hotdogs and the ladies auxiliary provided the homemade ice cream and cake.
The homemade ice cream and cake was made available to attendees for an optional donation. The funds raised support scholarships for graduating Brookfield seniors.
Grand Knight of the Knights of Columbus Myron Alexander says he enjoys giving back to Brookfield.
“We like doing service for the community,” Alexander said. “We opened the event to the community to give back.”
Alexander has been a member of the Knights of Columbus for over 25 years. The Knights of Columbus use the funds made at the ice cream social to sponsor summer concerts, church renovation and Twin Park renovations. The Knights also host fish fries at the church.
The CYO sponsored a carnival with many events and prizes for the kids. Boat races, bean bag toss, giant jenga, hot wheel races, train rides and many more events were featured at the ice cream social.
According to CYO member Natalie Bennett, the organization helps Brookfield.
“We work with the community to help people and do service projects,” Bennett said.
There are about 20 members of the CYO from the ages of 13 up to 18 years old. The kids volunteer to learn and help around town.
