Dorothy “Dottie” Wells Sherman, 82, died peacefully at home in Columbia on Saturday, March 24, 2018.
Private services were held.
Dottie was born Sept. 4, 1935 in Monmouth, Ill. to Ralph and Winifred Wells. She had four older brothers.
She obtained degrees from Stephens College and from the University of Missouri-Columbia with emphasis in early childhood education.
Dottie and her husband, Wes, met in Columbia in 1953 and married in 1955.
After graduation they lived in various places while serving in the military and working in industry. They returned to Columbia in 1963 to raise their family.
Dottie had great interest in animals. She raised horses and other animals on farms that she owned, and she competed successfully in many local and national events. She also used her woodworking and carpentry skills to create and sell children’s toys.
She and her family are members of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.
Dottie lived a life of service to her husband, to their children and grandchildren, to friends, and to many others. She is at this moment a treasure in heaven awaiting us all.
She is survived by her devoted husband, Wes Sherman; their children Steven, Lora (Mellies), Gordon and Nathan; and numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
