Wanda Darelee Craghead, 90, of Mexico, died July 4, 2018 at King’s Daughters Home in Mexico.
A private family burial was held at Hillcrest Cemetery in Fulton, MO.
The family will receive friends from 5:00 – 7:00 p.m. on Friday, August 24, at the Mexico United Methodist Church.
Wanda was born on Feb. 24, 1928 in Jefferson City, MO, to Harry and Susie Steinmetz, the oldest of eight. She graduated from Jefferson City High School in 1946 and from Warrensburg State Teachers College two years later.
She taught in rural schools in Callaway County, including Brooks and Calwood.
On May 26, 1951, she married John R. Craghead in Salem, Arkansas, and he preceded her in death on July 31, 1997.
Wanda sold Avon for many years and worked at Fredendall & Wilkins, Montgomery Wards and retired from Kline’s Dept. Store in 1990.
She was a member of the First Baptist Church where she helped fix many meals in the kitchen.
After retirement, she spent a lot of time gardening. She loved flowers and sold many bouquets at the farmers market along with produce.
She is survived by two sons, David (Penny Creed) Craghead of Mexico and Steve (Heidi) Craghead of New Hampshire; four grandchildren, Amber (Justin) Smtih, Kelly (Billy) Rhodes, Jamey Creed, and Dustin (Leigha) Creed; three great-grandchildren, Madison and Macie Rhodes, and Bryson Regot; a sister, Minnie Smith; and two brothers, George Steinmetz and Roger Steinmetz.
