LINN COUNTY – The Linn County Sheriff’s Office has issued a warning to the public about an ongoing scam targeting residents of the county. According to the sheriff’s office, individuals have reported receiving phone calls from someone falsely identifying themselves as “Deputy Brooks.” The caller claims to be a deputy with the Linn County Sheriff’s Office or affiliated with other nearby sheriff’s offices, instructing individuals to report to the sheriff’s office.
Sheriff Carrie Melte clarified that the person making these calls is not, and has never been, a deputy with the department. Officials have confirmed that this is a scam attempt, and residents are urged to be cautious.
Anyone receiving suspicious calls from individuals claiming to be with the Linn County Sheriff’s Office is encouraged to verify the legitimacy of the call before taking any action. The Sheriff’s Office advises residents not to provide any personal information over the phone and to report suspicious activity immediately.
