Brookfield's wrestling program opened its season on Wednesday night in a home dual against Carrollton before the mats were removed and the basketball teams hit the floor.

There were only six matches, but head coach Drew Passley said it was a good early-season opportunity for a couple guys to get their feet wet before the Bulldogs hit Marceline's tournament on Saturday.

"We're on track with our cardio," Passley said. "We have a long way to go with our conditioning, but we're right on schedule. The matches themselves, I thought we were pretty good on our feet, but in the five matches we had, I'd like to see us attack a lot more. As we get more confident in the season, we'll get better."

Donavan Parn at 132 pounds was the only Bulldog to notch a victory. He defeated his opponent by pin fall with eight seconds remaining in the first period. Tristan Izard, Michael Delana, Tyler Jacobs, and Peyton Armstrong were all defeated.

Brookfield's Yancey Dryer was the only girl of six on the roster who participated in a match on Wednesday, and she was defeated by pin in the middle of the first period.

"We made some mistakes tonight with our chain wrestling," Passley said. "We have to immediately bounce back when we give up a few points."
