Marceline girls finish second in Glasgow
The Marceline girls' basketball team was defeated in the championship of the Glasgow Tournament by the same team that eliminated them in the district semifinals last season.
Cairo defeated the Tigers, 60-46, despite Marceline having a 15-10 lead through one quarter. By halftime, Cairo had taken a 31-25 lead. By the end of the third quarter, Cairo had extended its lead to 12.
Kenzie Stahl had a fine evening for the Tigers, posting 20 points to go along with four rebounds. Ramzee Bruner was two boards shy of a double-double, finishing with 10 points.
Baylee Jobson finished with seven points, six assists, and five rebounds.
The Tigers play again Tuesday night when they host Trenton at 6 p.m.
Marceline middle schoolers fall in South Shelby tournament
The Marceline middle school boys' basketball team was toppled in the South Shelby tourney on Friday night, losing 38-12 to Monroe City. The Tigers posted three points in the first quarter, and did not score in the third. Coming out of the halftime break, the teams combined to score just three in that penultimate quarter.
Brookfield eighth graders lose consolation finals
The Brookfield eighth grade girls basketball team fell to Holy Rosary in the consolation finals of the South Shelby tournament last week by just a point, 40-39. After losing the opening round to Macon, The Lady Dogs battled back to defeat Marceline and earn a third game.
In the loss to Holy Rosary, Ella Daugherity led the way with 15 points, six steals, three rebounds, and three assists. Darcy Izard had a team-high six rebounds, and Kammy Dixon finished with five assists. Torie Trentham's eight points was second on the team.
