Marceline and Brookfield's wrestling teams travelled to the massive, 44-team Battle at the Katy Trail at Missouri Valley College on Friday and Saturday.
The Marceline boys finished fourth, and Brookfield finished eighth. Lathrop dominated the tournament, and defeated Gallatin by more than 60 team points.
Marceline racked up big points with three top-three finishes. Defending 152-pound state champion Clayton Stallo won his weight class. Cooper Fisher finished second at 120, and Cullen Bruner was third at 160 pounds.
Colton Fisher at 126, Colton Nelson at 138, and Seth Cupp all placed fourth.
Brookfield freshman Jaden Abongo took his first loss of the season in the championship match of the 113-pound weight class, falling to Mid-Buchanan's Kaden Anderson at the bitter end of the second period.
Donavan Parn remained undefeated with a championship in the 126-pound weight class. He recorded a pin midway through the third. Lone Jack's Justin Leath forced Brooks Baker into overtime, but the two-time state champion Baker won his championship match by 4-2 decision.
Neither team wrestles again until after Christmas.
