The Marceline boys' basketball team's tough opening to its season continued in last week's tournament in which it played host.
The Tigers finished sixth out of six teams in the Marceline Hoops Tournament, and fall to 0-10.
In pool play, the Tigers lost 61-45 to South Shelby and 64-28 against Milan.
Marceline hung with Macon for the first half of the fifth-place game, and even took a 30-29 lead early in the third quarter. The Tigers were eventually felled, 61-41, and only scored 13 points in the second half.
Sophomore Luke Ablen led the Tigers with 11 points in the consolation game, and three Tigers fouled out.
First-year Marceline coach Jordan Aulbur said that his very young team's growing pains are to be expected, and that his group demonstrated some of the best energy they have shown all year in Saturday's loss to Macon.
"That was one of the better games that we've played so far this season, so that's a good start," Aulbur said. "I thought our hustle tonight was awesome, and we played hard all game. We took a lot of charges that we haven't been taking up until now. It just got out of hand at the end, our legs got tired a little bit.
"Of course winning is important, but these kids know that they're young and inexperienced. The more these kids stay positive, the more it allows them to get that valuable game experience."
