The Brookfield track and field season officially got underway within the past week, with the Bulldogs traveling to indoor meets in Maryville (Northwest Missouri State) on Saturday, and Warrensburg (Central Missouri) on Tuesday.
In Maryville, freshman Alex Sharp's 5:33 1600-meter time earned her first place. She finished second in the 3200 with a time of 11:38, which would constitute a school record if the race had taken place outdoors. Sharp also won the open 800 with a 2:28.
Brandon Collins was the Bulldogs' other first-place finisher on Saturday, earning gold in the 60-meter dash with a time of 7.37 seconds.
Evan Fay finished fifth in the shot put with a throw of 45 feet. Both the boys 4x200 and 4x400 teams finished fifth.
On Tuesday in Warrensburg, a few events were held outdoors. Sharp got her school record in her first-ever official outdoor 3200 with an 11:52. She also won the 1600, improving her time with a 5:28 finish.
Collins won the 60-meter dash, and improved his time by nine hundredths of a second.
Tyler Polley was second in the 800-meter run at 2:17, and fourth in the 1600 at 5:13.
The boys' 4x400 finished second, and the boys' 4x200 was third.
Fay and Wyatt Reed finished third and fourth in the shot put, and Zoey Chrisman finished fourth on the girls' side with a throw of 31 feet, nine inches. Blake Cavannaugh was third in the long jump at 20 feet even.
Rylee Sensenich's 4'9" high jump earned her fifth. Tanner Wallace placed fourth in the pole vault by clearing 12 feet.
Brookfield hosts the Brookfield Open Meet on Tuesday at 3:30 p.m.
