The Brookfield and Marceline track teams travelled to the Class 2 Sectional 4 meet in Lathrop on Saturday, and the cold, wet conditions hardly hindered any Bulldogs' or Tigers' performances.

The Brookfield girls finished third, and Marceline was fourth just a point behind. The Bulldog boys finished sixth, and and Marceline was a spot behind.

Brookfield's girls got a hefty sum of points from freshman Alex Sharp, who again swept the 800, 1600, and 3200 to earn 30 points by herself. Kate Ewing won the javelin with a career-best throw of 127 feet, four inches.

Zoey Chrisman advanced to the state meet with a fourth-place finish in the shot put, as did Rylee Sensenich in the triple jump.

Brookfield's 4x100 team (Ewing, Precious Starlin, Rylan Head, Avery Thompson) finished fourth to advance with a time of 53.58.

Marceline's only winner on the girls' side was freshman Ramzee Bruner, winning the high jump by three inches at five feet, three inches. Teammate Jaylea Bixenman finished fourth to advance alongside her.

Renee Sinclair finished third in both the triple jump and long jump, and will advance in both. Sarah Kussman was fourth in the pole vault.

The Tigers finished fourth in both the 4x200 (Bixenman, Bruner, Kenzie Stahl, Abbey Kussman) and the 4x400 with the same four. Abbey Kussman was third in the 400.

On the boys' side, Brookfield's Jeremy Williams finished second in the javelin with a 150-foot throw. Returning state medalist Evan Fay was third in the shot put at 47 feet.

Cooper Cisna was third in the long jump at 20 feet.

The Bulldogs finished third in the 4x400 (Tim Izard, Tyler Polley, Brandon Collins, Blake Cavanaugh) and fourth in the 4x100 (Collins, Tanner Wallace, Cooper Cisna, Cavanaugh).

Marceline's boys won the 4x800 (Logan Swanson, Cullen Bruner, Nick Cain, Wyatt Molloy) at 8:34. Swanson also qualified in the 3200 by just one hundredth of a second at 10:44.40.

Hayden Dorrell and Alex McCauslin both advanced in the pole vault by finishing second and third.

The state track meet is this weekend in Jefferson City.
