Tex Edward Othic was born on on August 1st, 1944, in Brookfield, MO to Leo and Lois (Howk) Othic. He lived his entire childhood in Linneus, MO and attended school there until his graduation in 1962. Following graduation Tex joined the U.S. Army and was stationed in Germany for 3 years with the 3rd Infantry Division. After his military service Tex worked for the railroad, the Missouri State Highway Department, and Thomas Hill power plant.
On February 14th, 1968, Tex and Connie O’Toole were wed and moved to Huntsville, MO. In August 1976 Tex started his career as a U.S. Border Patrol Agent in Yuma, Arizona, an adventurous job he truly loved. He made friends there whom he kept in touch with for years. In 1980, after living in one of the hottest border states he transferred to one of the coldest border stations, Swanton, Vermont. In 1983 he and his family relocated to Holt, Missouri where he was a Deportation Officer, retiring as the Assistant District Director of Deportations for the Kansas City District in 2001.
Tex passed away on July 12th following a battle with cancer. He was always a friend to everyone, and he never met a stranger. Tex loved his pets, enjoyed the outdoors, was easy-going, kind, and loved his family with all his heart. He is survived by his wife Connie of 54 years, a daughter, Shaney Othic, of Kearney, MO, a son, Clay Othic, of Sheridan, Oregon, two granddaughters, Delaney Nelson of Houston, Texas and Aubrey Nelson of Maryville, MO. Tex also had one stepdaughter, Yvonne (Shawn) Sweeney, and two step granddaughters, Kristen Sweeney and Kaitlin (DJ) Kling, all of Kansas City, MO.
A Celebration of Life will be held July 23rd from 2-5 PM at the Kearney Senior Center in Kearney, MO. In lieu of flowers he requested donations be made to the Northland Therapeutic Riding Center (www.ntrcmo.org) or Three Rangers Foundation (www.threerangersfoundation.org).
